The Heremoana expedition is a scientific and ecological project that aims to explore the worldâs seas for two years while minimizing environmental impact and promoting a more environmentally friendly lifestyle in the oceans.
The preparation of the boat and the work is carried out using sustainable materials and the âdo it yourselfâ philosophy is encouraged, using the expedition boat as a laboratory for systems designed and built by the crew themselves.
JEANNEAU SUN LEGENDE 41, The Sun Legende series, which includes the Sun Legende 41, was introduced in the 1980s and quickly gained recognition for its performance, design, and cruising capabilities. These boats were designed by the renowned American naval architect Doug Peterson, who was known for his successful designs in both racing and cruising sailboats. The Sun Legende 41 was one of the prominent models in this series.

The boat is from 1987 and was powered by a Yanmar 4JHE. The engine mounts were never replaced, and their condition was not suitable for such an ambitious project.
The Yanmar 4JHE is a marine diesel engine produced by the Japanese company Yanmar Co., Ltd. This engine is part of Yanmar’s extensive line of marine engines designed for use in sailboats and small powerboats. The 4JHE is known for its reliability, efficiency, and compact size, making it a popular choice among boat owners and builders.
The engine’s 4-cylinder design made it suitable for 35-45 feet Sailboat vessels. The 4JHE is known for its durability and ability to withstand the harsh marine environment, including exposure to saltwater and continuous use. While newer models and technologies have emerged in the marine engine market, the 4JHE remains a classic choice for those who appreciate its simplicity and dependability.
In this segment, Guillaume secures the engine with basic wooden supports, elevating it to begin the Yanmar engine mount replacement procedure. He also demonstrates the process for replacing the cutlass bearing.
In this part of the video, Guillaume disconnects the shaft coupling and starts the process of individually removing and replacing each Yanmar engine mount.
In the next video, Guillaume positions the new mount at a similar height to the previous Yanmar marine engine mount and prepares all four engine mounts for shaft alignment.
